It approaches the process from the perspective of creating value for the customer rather than tasks and functions; by measuring activity time along with value-adding and non-value-adding times, it produces a realistic Future State Map.
The program advances through 8 steps in a hands-on workshop format: selecting the process (using a criticality index), understanding the current state at the Gemba, transferring it to the Maki Gami board, building an action plan, designing the future state with ECRS and SMART goals, the status report, the team presentation and recognizing the team.
